ACD President Dennis Daggett Honored by United Negro College Fund

The Labor Advisory Board to the United Negro College Fund gave its highest labor award to Dennis Daggett, President, International Longshoremen’s Association, AFL-CIO at ceremonies held Sunday, November 20, 2011 in Edison, New Jersey. The ACD leader received the Honoring Labor Award from the organization for UNCF, this nation’s oldest and most successful African-American higher education assistance organizations.

Also honored was Anthony J. Ray, Executive Vice President, Maher Terminals, who received the Honoring Good Corporate Citizenship; Reverend H.William Rutherford, Jr., New Jersey State Conference, NAACP President who received the Honoring Community Service and Mae Lang, Assistant to the Director, AFSCME, NJ Council One who received the Roy Kirkley Sr. Pioneer of Labor Award.

Scores of ILA officials, including Stephen Knott, ILA General Vice President and James Stolpinksi, ACD Secretary-Treasurer, were present at the ceremonies. ILA General Organizer Jerry Owens, Local 1233 officers William Bernard Dudley and Herbert Hall, were cited at the UNCF Brunch for their tireless efforts on behalf of the New Jersey organization that has been raising money for over 22 years.

“I am proud to been raised in a color blind home,” said Dennis Daggett to the hundreds gathered for the United Negro College Fund brunch at the Pines Manor in Edison. “And I’m especially proud to be associated with Bernard Dudley, Herbie Hall and Jerry Owens and thank ILA Local 1233 for getting our union involved in this important work.
