Hughes, Jr. greets <br/> Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis at headquarters of ILA Local 1416. <br/> Clarence Pittman, Jr., President of ILA Local 1416, is at center.<br/> <!--END CAPTION HERE--> </div> <p><b>MIAMI</b>  U.S. Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis made her first public appearance as a member of President Barack Obama s new Cabinet by visiting ILA Local 1416 headquarters in Miami where she was greeted by ILA International President Richard P. Hughes, Jr., and Local 1416 President Clarence Pittman, Jr. </p> <p>The AFL-CIO planned a Community Forum at the Greater Bethel AME Church in Miami on March 2nd where hundreds of union workers and community activities gathered to meet the Labor Secretary. Prior to that event, the new Labor Secretary met next door with ILA officials and dozens of other labor leaders at the headquarters of Local 1416, ILA, AFL-CIO.</p> <p>It was a proud moment for the ILA, a point echoed both Labor Secretary Hilda Solis and AFL-CIO President John Sweeney.</p> <p> It is an honor to make my first official speaking appearance as Labor Secretary at the headquarters of ILA Local 1416, said Secretary Solis.</p> <p>ILA President Hughes told the Labor Secretary how proud he was to have been at the White House recently with other labor leaders at the invitation of President Obama.</p> <p> The ILA is proud that our initials also stand for  I Love America and to have helped in the election of President Barack Obama, Hughes told the Labor Secretary.  A few weeks ago, labor was welcomed home to the White House so, Madam Secretary Solis, we welcome you to our home today. </p> <p>At both the ILA headquarters and at the Community Forum, Labor Secretary Holis vowed to fully enforce the laws that protect workers-unlike her predecessor who declared war on working people for eight years. Solis, who was one of the first supporters in Congress for the Employee Free Choice Act, also said she would work to pass and then enforce the legislation if it becomes law.</p> <p>Saying  there s a new sheriff in town Solis told 700 union and community activists at the Greater Bethel AME Church that one of the Obama administration s top priorities is to provide protection for workers in the workplace. </p> <p> We are extremely proud that our U.S. Labor Secretary would come to our local, said Clarence Pittman at the conclusion of the event.
